First Turtle Dove sighting

Congratulations to Angela Trotter who was one of the first to spot a Turtle Dove had returned to the Etton/Maxey area.

She spotted the bird early on Sunday, April 13 on the power lines alongside the Maxey Cut. The sighting (main picture, above) was a good week earlier than those in previous years.

The return of the bird – one of the most threatened species – immediately set Langdyke’s support of Operation Turtle Dove into operation with volunteers putting out supplementary feed for the birds on the site of the Etton Maxey pits nature reserve.

Angela also took this photo of a Goosander mum and multiple chicks – one of two families seen on the Cut. One originally had nine chicks and the other 11.
