Unique book signing event

A unique book signing event has been arranged for Langdyke members for Thursday, October 2.

An evening with author Michael Warren and a chance to get a signed copy of his book ‘The Cuckoo’s Lea’ is being held at the Bainton Reading Rooms at 7pm.

There is special Langdyke interest in the book written by Michael, who is the nephew of Langdyke trustee and board member Brian Lawrence.

It promises to be a special evening with Michael, together with the chance to get a signed copy – an ideal early Christmas present for yourself or a friend,

The publishers say of the book: “Hidden in the names of English towns and villages, in copses, fields, lanes and hills, are the ghostly traces of birds conjuring powerful identities for people in ancient landscapes. What are their stories and secrets? How did people encounter birds over a thousand years ago? Michael’s book will help you discover.”

Michael will no doubt talk about the title of the book, which refers to Yaxley.  There is also mention in a chapter on Nightingales  of hearing them in the dead of night; referring to a walk her and Brian took one late evening through Castor Hanglands to listen to the birds signing.
Brian said: “It’s a very interesting book especially for anyone interested in natural history and how English place names evolved. Michael is a trained medievalist with a PhD in medieval literature so he writes from a good base and understanding of the medieval period. “
