A number of instances of people using metal detectors on the Torpel Manor site has prompted a warning that this activity is illegal.
Torpel is a Listed Ancient Monument and, as such, is protected in UK law. There must be no metal detecting on site, this would be a criminal offence.
Langdyke trustee Mike Clatworthy, who represents the History and Archaeology group said: “There has been a problem with illegal metal detecting at Torpel over the lockdown and we would urge anyone seeing such activity to let us know immediately, though do not risk approaching such people.”
New signs are in progress to remind people that it is an offence.
