A new management plan to increase the area of muddy wet habitat at the Etton Maxey Nature reserve is underway.
An area of land has been scraped in front of the north hide with the hope of flooding it to attract over-wintering and migrant waders.
Eastern Reserves Manager David Cowcill said: “The keen eyed may notice an extra feature at the Etton Maxey Pits reserve – two large areas of disturbed grassland on the Central and North Meadows.
“This is part of the Management Plan for the reserve – to increase the area of muddy wet habitat for over-wintering and migrant waders.
“After a dry summer we will allow the water level to rise and flood this area until late next spring – and see what happens!”
A dam has been created in the East-West ditch to hold some water back and keep the new scrapes suitably wet.
