Great news – our outside events are returning with a series of guided walks with priority booking for full members of Langdyke.
The walks – which require members to book online to confirm a place – are designed so that they can take part in separate small groups to ensure social distancing is maintained at all times.
Members are asked to book only one event – so that there are enough places to go around.
This is the plan:
Wednesday May 5 (7.30pm) – Members only guided Nightingale walk, Castor Hanglands (for 5 people)
Wednesday May 5 (7.30pm) – Members only guided walk , Etton Maxey Reserve and Maxey Cut (for 5 people)
Tuesday, May 18 (7.30pm) Three separate guided Nightingale walks at Castor Hanglands with three different leaders. A number of tickets are available for non-members with a suggested donation of £3.50.
Tickets for these events will go on sale from the morning of May 1 with a priority being given to full Langdyke members.

These are organised guided walks. The first one at Castor Hanglands National Nature Reserve will be led by Mike Horne and the one on the same night at Etton Maxey Pits and Maxey Cut, will be led by Richard Astle.
This is a fantastic opportunity to meet with Langdyke friends old and new and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of these two wonderful locations at dusk and if you are lucky you might hear the Nightingale, Cuckoo and Turtle Dove.
Castor Hanglands is perhaps the nightingale’s most northerly stronghold in the country. And despite its catastrophic decline nationally, the population at the Hanglands remains vibrant with over 30 singing males there in recent years.
On this walk we will not only hear the nightingales sing, but also check out the bats overhead, the newts in the pond and maybe hear a deer or two in the background! Suitable for all ages, but dress up warm and be prepared for some mud!”
Etton Maxey Pits is home to Lapwing and Langdyke basecamp for Operation Turtle Dove. Turtle doves sightings have been reported in the Etton and Maxey areas in several recent summers and there is a chance to see the common tern, black headed gulls, little grebes, mute swans, skylark, redshank and lapwing.
These are Langdyke, members only events and booking is essential. Unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate anyone that doesn’t have a booking confirmation.
On the May 18 event the groups will be led by Mike Horne, Justin Tilley and Antony Mould.

Important parking and meeting point information
For Castor Hanglands, please park at the meeting point, on the verges close to the entrance to Southey Woods. Parking is at your own risk and we would recommend that you do not to leave any valuables in your car.
For Etton Maxey Pits please park considerately and the meeting point is the barn at Etton High Meadow.
