Langdyke volunteers have created two new entrances to the Etton Maxey Pit nature reserve.
The new gate off the main Etton to Helpston road was established because scheduled Anglian Water works mean the old car park entrance had to be closed.
Now work has been undertaken by the Eastern reserves team to create a new safer entrance at the Maxey Cut end of the the reserve. New signs will show you where to go.
The Anglian Water pipeline work on the reserve is currently at a standstill. But it has meant a number of changes including new fencing across the reserve. Despite the changes the reserve is still open for members to visit but access to the site is through this new gate and another new one from the Maxey Cut.
The Maxey Cut entrance can be used by members using the regular combination lock number. The gate has to be kept locked to meet the conditions imposed by site owners Tarmac because it borders a working gravel quarry,
It can be found on the Maxey Cut next to the bridge crossing used by Tarmac. The entrance leads to a set of new steps which will allow easy access to the reserve.
